Speaking during a news conference that the chairmen of the eleven districts from the southern region called soon after their emergency meeting at the party's regional headquarters in Blantyre, the district chairs said they are disappointed and have lost trust with Jumbe and Dzombe as they are busy destroying the party instead of building Nsanje District chairman Mc Stanley Folly said Jumbe and Dzombe are busy coaxing some district chairman to sign the document calling for an emergency convention to unseat Chakwera Folly said they are behind Chakwera’s leadership and that the two “confusionists” are being used as “mercenaries” by some political leaders in the corridors of power. Thyolo District Chairman Bennie Harry Betha said it is worrisome that at a time that everyone is busy building MCP in readiness for 2019 elections, the “confusionists” have decided to sell their political souls for personal interest. George Thambo chair of Blantyre District rural, challenged the “Judas Iscariots” that they won't succeed in their plans to destabilise the party The highly charged Blantyre chair then demanded the two to stop speaking issues that will destroy the party or else they must resign for the party join the one which is funding them. Southern Region chair Peter Simbi then agreed with the entire chairman that they support the stand made by central region by endorsing Chakwera as its president till 2019 general elections. But both Jumbe and Dzombe have distanced themselves from the petition calling for convention. “I don’t know anything about that. I know it must be the work of some people who want to kill Jumbe politically. They want to implicate me in whatever is happening. That’s not good,” Jumbe said. On his part, Dzombe said: “I am not aware of that.” Another person linked to the petition is Azam Mwale of Dowa who is reportedly with Jumbe and Dzombe. Meanwhile, MCP president and leader of opposition , Chakwera is expected to hold a political rally in Chikhwawa at Nchalo ground this coming Saturday This will be Chakwera's first ever political rally in Chikwawa since he lost the 2014 elections to president Peter Mutharika.
